Mozilla Thunderbird is a sophisticated, free POP3/IMAP email client, similar (yet superior) to Microsoft Outlook Express. It is available for Linux, Windows and Mac OS, in dozens of languages. Thunderbird features integrated SPAM filters, advanced spell-checking, HTML email and other helpful features to make your email experience with Promail a pleasant one. This tutorial will teach you how to set up your Promail email account within Thunderbird.
Download Thunderbird: mozilla.com This is simply a step-by-step screenshot walk-through of how to set up Thunderbird. Once Thunderbird is installed, run it. You will be greeted with the New Account Setup wizard. Let's get started setting up your account . . .  Click NEXT.
 Enter your name in the specified field, followed by your email address. Then, click NEXT. HINT: "Your Name" is what people will see when you send them a message.
 Enter mail.promail.ca in both the Incoming and Outgoing Server fields. Then click NEXT.
 Your User Name is the same as your email address; enter it here, then click NEXT.
 Give your account a "friendly" name (what you want to see it as), then click NEXT.
 Confirm your settings and click FINISH.
 Enter your password, select "Use password manager to remember this password" and click OK.
 Click Edit --> Account Settings.
 Click the Outgoing Server (SMTP) on the left pane, highlight your account, and choose EDIT.
 Change the Port from 25 to 587. Make sure "Use name and password" is checked, and that your email address is in the User Name field. Press OK.
 Create a new email message, and send it to yourself. Enter anything for the subject and message body. Press SEND.
 Enter your password again; this time for the outgoing mail. Again, set it to remember your password, and press OK.
 If you press the "GET MAIL" button, you'll now receive your test email.
Congratulations! You have now successfully sent and received email in Thunderbird! |
